“In 2005 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It hasn’t been easy. I’ve had heat issues, insomnia, horrible pain in my hips and knees, and more stuff I can’t even think of as I write this, but I’ve NEVER let my disease keep me down or define me. Life happens and you go on! I first got back into fitness going to the gym just about every night in a second floor building that had no AC and windows that were locked shut. Yah, not a very good gym but it worked and it suited my budget. I also started getting back into riding my bike in 2010 (…at least I think that’s when I started. Yeah my memory is sometimes bad. Thanks MS!!) Well I got up to riding over 150 miles a week! I love riding but once I set the clocks back and improved my conditioning, I had no idea what I was going to do with all that extra energy I’d earned from pushing myself. I needed a way to burn it off, and while my body had definitely changed, I wasn’t where I wanted to be with my weight. Around this time, when I was starting to get frustrated, I read something in the paper that literally changed my life. I read a story about a girl who was training for a MS bike ride. She was doing INSANITY workouts to help train for the event. I checked it out online and thought INSANITY looked like a lot of “fun” (in a slight masochistic way LOL), so I ordered them.
It didn’t take long before I realized that ShaunT is 100% without a doubt, SATAN!!!!
Haha! Seriously, I LOVE THAT MAN TO DEATH!! And he is certainly the one I blame for my current obsession with extreme workouts and sweat. Most of the people I know and whom I’ve read about that have MS, let their disease define them…DEFEAT them. Not this girl! I am not happy if I don’t get at least one shirt/shorts drenched in sweat every day. I guess there are worse things to have an addiction to then sweat! 😉
By the end of 2011 I was really starting to feel better about myself through my exercise and improvements I’d made to my nutrition with the help of my coach. That was when life threw me another curveball…divorce. I’d planned on trying P90X2 as my next “challenge” but with my financial future uncertain, I just couldn’t do it. I was shocked and amazed when Coach Britt actually purchased the entire P90X2 system for me so I could do a challenge with him and his team while I was going through this really tough period… This new workout was something that I was able to control when my life was completely out of control. I CRUSHED that challenge and loved every second of it. I’m so thankful for the support I received from my coach and my team.
I’ve since finished another challenge that is a hybrid of both P90X2 and INSANITY. LOL…the two men (Tony Horton and ShaunT) I LOVE to hate! I also run up and down the stairs at work several times at lunchtime each day, and encourage others to join me. I can’t believe how much energy I have! MS can kiss my butt ;-X
And the inches keep coming off! I gone from size 10 pants being tight to size 2’s. (I have had to replace my bras about 2 times too because the girls keep shrinking too haha!! But you know what? I DON’T CARE! Skinny girls may look good in clothes, but fit girls look awesome naked!
I eat so much better than at any other time in my life. Sure, I still crave bad carbs now and then, but I love the way eating healthy and drinking Shakeology every day makes me FEEL. I know when I tackle INSANITY: The Asylum next, I am going to give it everything I’ve got as well as fuel my body with good, healthy foods…
“Are the workouts hard?” HECK YEAH! As you will hear time and time again “If it were easy, it wouldn’t work”. These workouts break you down somewhat before they build you right back up. They give you a certain type of empowerment when you accomplish something really challenging that other people couldn’t even try. The great thing about Beachbody workouts like INSANITY and P90X, is that anyone can do them! The trainers are constantly telling you to push yourself, but not too hard, and they always demonstrate modifications for beginners.
Thanks to my new boyfriend, my team, my friends, these workouts and of course my coach, I have never felt better in my life…especially with what most would call a disability. My challenges have made me stronger, not weaker. Bolder not more timid. I’m LIVING my life and thriving.
You want to lose weight, sweat your butt off and feel awesome? You seriously need to get these workouts, eat clean, drink lots of water and just freaking do it! What are you waiting for? I mean come on, I have MS, what excuse do you have? I am not planning on stopping these workouts for ANYTHING. Work hard at what you want and stop finding a reason WHY you can’t do something…
I became a coach to do my part to pay it forward. If you’re ready to make a change in your life, I want to help you. If you have MS and think exercise is out of the question, I’m here to tell you it’s NOT. Believe that you can do anything you set your mind to.”
