Carolina Beats Fibromyalgia and Sjögren’s Syndrome

Loses 30 Pounds and 90% of Her Pain in the Process I couldn’t be prouder to introduce Team Triumph’s newest success story and coach, Carolina Sarcos Santamaria. Her Tea m Beachbody username says it all: ‘yopuedo’ (I can!). When I met Carolina, she weighed 180 pounds and was in constant pain from fibromyalgia and Sjögren’s syndrome. Carolina is also a thyroid cancer survivor. She and I had talked for more than a year about her joining one of my challenge groups, but her health always held her back. In January of this year she secretly committed to do P90X because she was afraid her doctors, friends and family would try to talk her out it! And she was worried she might not be able to finish…but she was determined NOT to let that happen. She pressed play and drank Shakeology, day after day, for 90 days. She had decided that if she was going to be in pain anyways, it may as well be from muscle fatigue and improvement. Well, she was so inspired by the 15 pounds and 14 inches she lost doing P90X that she went on to join our next Challenge Group and completed Chalean Extreme, bringing her total weight loss to 30 pounds and 31 inches shed! Even more significant than how she now LOOKS is how she FEELS. Carolina is 90% PAIN FREE and her stiffness is almost completely gone. It was less than a year ago that she was feeling literally MISERABLE physically and mentally. For Carolina, this has been a journey to recapture a quality of life she thought she’d lost forever. What an amazing success story…and she’s not even CLOSE to quitting. Her journey is just beginning. I was really happy last week when Carolina reached out to me to ask if I thought she would make a good Team Beachbody coach? Of course(!!!) the answer was yes! She’s going to pay it forward in a big way, starting with her husband and immediate family. Welcome...

Team Triumph Success Story – Samantha L. Doesn’t Let Her MS Hold Her Back! She Used Insanity, P90X2 and Shakeology to Drop 8 Sizes

Samantha’s story: “In 2005 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It hasn’t been easy. I’ve had heat issues, insomnia, horrible pain in my hips and knees, and more stuff I can’t even think of as I write this, but I’ve NEVER let my disease keep me down or define me. Life happens and you go on! I first got back into fitness going to the gym just about every night in a second floor building that had no AC and windows that were locked shut. Yah, not a very good gym but it worked and it suited my budget. I also started getting back into riding my bike in 2010 (…at least I think that’s when I started. Yeah my memory is sometimes bad. Thanks MS!!) Well I got up to riding over 150 miles a week! I love riding but once I set the clocks back and improved my conditioning, I had no idea what I was going to do with all that extra energy I’d earned from pushing myself. I needed a way to burn it off, and while my body had definitely changed, I wasn’t where I wanted to be with my weight. Around this time, when I was starting to get frustrated, I read something in the paper that literally changed my life. I read a story about a girl who was training for a MS bike ride. She was doing INSANITY workouts to help train for the event. I checked it out online and thought INSANITY looked like a lot of “fun” (in a slight masochistic way LOL), so I ordered them. It didn’t take long before I realized that ShaunT is 100% without a doubt, SATAN!!!! Haha! Seriously, I LOVE THAT MAN TO DEATH!! And he is certainly the one I blame for my current obsession with extreme workouts and sweat. Most of the people I know and whom I’ve read about that have MS, let their disease define them…DEFEAT them. Not this girl! I am not happy if I don’t get at least one shirt/shorts drenched in sweat every day. I guess there are worse things to have an addiction to then sweat! 😉 By the end of 2011 I was really starting to feel better about myself through my exercise and improvements I’d made to my nutrition with the help of my coach. That was when life threw me another curveball…divorce. I’d planned on trying P90X2 as my next “challenge” but with my financial future uncertain, I just couldn’t do it. I was shocked and amazed when Coach Britt actually purchased the entire P90X2 system for me so I could do...

Jessie S. Didn’t Let Her Hypothyroidism Stop Her from Losing 21 Pounds, and Go from Squishing into a Size 10 to a Size 2 with P90X

Jessie’s Story in her own words: “May 2010 I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.  I had gained 17 lbs in two months, was sleeping 14hours or more a day, and felt sad most of the time.  The once passionate and determined person I had been was beginning to disappear.  I had always made the excuse “I don’t have enough time”.  That changed when I decided that living like this was no longer an option for me.  I took different classes, bought exercise programs, and started running.  Over the summer I was able to lose a few lbs but was far from fitting back into my size 6 jeans and could not stick to working out consistently.  I injured my foot from trying to run too far, and too fast, in too short a time. In the fall I bought Insanity from a neighbor.  I quickly fell in love with the workouts, despite the  buckets of sweat dripping down my face and feeling like my body had caught fire, I pushed through. I had to push pause a lot to catch my breath but I just kept going. I did not lose a lot of weight right away, though I became much more toned and had a lot more energy.  I started working with a coach who inspired and challenged me.  I got over my skepticism of Shakeology and tried it.  A week later I had to check the scale to make sure it was still working because I had lost four pounds in a week.  Two days before finishing the 60 day program I injured my knee and was unable to finish. During the next couple of months I was not able to work out but I focused on my eating and disciplined myself to be much more strict and control my cravings. In February I started P90X despite my injuries which had not been healed but had gotten better.  I started shrinking almost immediately, the numbers on the scale did not always show my improvements but my pants kept getting looser and looser.  I started visiting the store every month or so because I had dropped a size.  Even my wedding band became too big to ware anymore because my fingers were now skinny.  The workouts helped relieve a lot of stress and negative feelings and I began to feel more confident and enthusiastic.  I lost 21 pounds, went from squishing into a size 10 to a size 2.  I struggled to barely get my chin above the bar on the first day to being able to do 9 solid pull-ups in a row.  Though starting out on my...

Success Story – Lance L. Lost 62 Pounds and Went from a 44″ Waist to a 34″ Waist with P90X, Insanity: The Asylum and Shakeology

Lance’s story in his own words: “The most important thing about myself is that I am a husband and a father of two beautiful girls. My wife and daughters are everything to me. That’s one of the reasons I decided to get healthy. Growing up, and even in college, I never had any problems with my weight. Not sure what happened but after I got married my metabolism couldn’t keep up with my eating habits. As crazy as it sounds I really didn’t notice how overweight I was until I saw a photo of myself at the pool on a trip to Disney World It took seeing that photo to realize I had let things get out of hand. The scale showed I weighed 267 pounds! How did I let this happen? I immediately started boxing when I returned home and in a year I had got down to 218 until I fractured my wrist. I started eating bad again but continued to workout and weighed 255 pounds when I ran my first 1/2 marathon in May of this year. I may have been able to run 13.1 miles but I was still obese and not happy with my fitness or my eating habits. That’s when I saw P90X and Shakeology. It looked like everything I was looking for. Fitness, muscles, flexibility, and nutrition! But I was very skeptical of all the success stories. I decided to try P90X and supplement with Shakeology to see if it was for real. I even started a blog to keep myself motivated. I started P90X and Shakeology on September 27, 2010 and I am amazed by how good I feel and how much I have changed in such little time. The photos above show that Beachbody programs are for real and that anyone can dramatically change their health and fitness. When I started I was borderline diabetic and my doctor was on the verge of putting me on high blood pressure medicine. I had back pain, knee pain, pain in the arches of my feet, pains in my Achilles, constant headaches and very little energy. I was considered morbidly obese and headed towards a heart attack. I am living proof that poor health can be reversed. I went from 267 lbs to 205 lbs. 34% body fat to 11.96% currently. A 44″ waist to a 34″ waist! My blood pressure is now 118/62 and I have a resting heart rate of 53! I have no back or leg pains, ton of energy and I never get headaches anymore. Never in a million years did I think I could be healthier than I...
