I Just Don’t Have TIME To Workout!

How many times have you said this to yourself? C’mon. Admit it. You’ve done it. Maybe not today, now that you’ve started on your path to a healthier you, but some time long long ago. Or maybe this is still you? Let’s face it, LIFE happens. We get busy with “stuff”. Work, kids, school, pets, hobbies, paying bills, taking out the garbage…watching television, Facebook…whatever. Well, this isn’t a typical “make time” post. Nope. Not gonna do that to you today! But did you realize that in the time it took you to get on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or whatever to find this article and read it, you could have spent 10 minutes MOVING? I workout every day. Exercise has just become a part of my lifestyle. Some days are definitely easier than others, but I make time early in the morning when the rest of my family is still sleeping. And that works MOST days, but not all. I run into an issue with time when I have to travel for business. The alarm buzzes at 5:00am, but instead of heading out to the garage for some exercise, I need to throw on a suit and head to the airport for an early flight to wherever. On days like that, it’s just impossible to find 60 or 90 minutes for a good workout. On those days I do my own version of a 10 minute workout…and the beautiful thing is that I can do it anywhere in my house, so it’s easy to clean up and get dressed and out the door immediately afterward. What I do on super time crunched days is 10 or 15 minutes of non-stop UMAL (upper, middle, aerobic, lower). No equipment…just ME. Think some kind of push-up, Ab/core movement, jumping jack or run in place, and then a squat or split lunge movement… Then simply repeat until you run out of time. Find time for some kind of movement every day…even if it’s only for a short while. Embrace working out the way you embrace eating and brushing your teeth and it will quickly become a part of your routine. And on those days where you’re super tight on time, just do SOMETHING. You’ll feel better for it. Good luck! And if you think you can find 25 minutes a day, 5 days a week, I highly recommend ShaunT’s FOCUS T25. Yep…in just 25 minutes a day and eating right the other 23½ hours, you CAN get in the best shape of your life. Check it out!! To your good health! Coach...

What Drives You?

What Drives You?

Fear? Envy? Vanity? Responsibility? What does it take to be successful? I believe the answer is determination. Whether it’s your job, school, goals in the gym, or even your boldest dreams, you must be DETERMINED. Every day I begin my “work” as a Team Beachbody Coach and I am inspired by everyone around me. Like I often say, “iron sharpens iron”. I am better because of you. And I hesitate to call something I love doing so much WORK. Every time I read posts and private messages from my team, I think about y’all sweating, groaning, scratching and clawing your way to better bodies. You have something you want and you’re going after it. You don’t just WANT it or EXPECT it to happen. You WORK FOR IT by pushing yourself hard through each and every workout. It takes trust to believe in what you coach is telling you. It takes DETERMINATION to stick with it time and time again when quitting is such an easy option. I’m also inspired by my own hope of reaching out to folks who are NOT as inspired as you. Friends, colleagues, strangers who continue to struggle and who are afraid to push themselves. There are so many people out there that have a dream of being fit that they see as totally unattainable. They don’t know how or where to start. Or they may simply be afraid to sweat and do what they need to do to achieve their goal. I need YOUR help in reaching those people. If you know someone that would benefit from my coaching, PLEASE encourage them to reach out to me. Our door is always open. As a coach and the leader of a Team Triumph, I always get emotionally invested in your success. If you fail to achieve your goals, I feel I have failed you. Ultimately I have realized, though, that it is YOU that are in control. I can take someone down the path step by step, workout by workout, meal by meal, but if they’re not ready for that level of commitment and willingness to follow the directions of their coach, they cannot and will not succeed. There are many, many people who would do anything to accomplish their fitness goals and get to a healthier place in their lives. Are you one of them? I have people waiting for spots to open up, in the hopes of giving me everything they have to better themselves. If this is not you, I urge you to take a moment and evaluate why? If you truly want to accomplish what you have set out to...

Are You In Danger of Becoming a Statistic (or Has This Happened To You Already)?

Are You In Danger of Becoming a Statistic (or Has This Happened To You Already)?

It has been my experience that most people are in denial about being overweight. One simple and effective method to figure out if you have a weight “problem” is to check your waist measurement. With a tape measure, measure the distance around the smallest area below your rib cage, above your belly button. This measurement is the best and simplest measure of total body fat, and is far better than standard BMI (body mass index), which fails to factor in how muscular you are. Waist circumference is also the best indicator of intra-abdominal fat mass…the “bad” kind of fat around your internal organs that’s strongly linked with Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some liver disease. Your waist size is also a powerful indicator of insulin sensitivity, as studies clearly show that measuring your waist size is one of the most powerful ways to predict your risk for diabetes. If you’re not sure if you have a healthy waist circumference, a general guides are: * source: “U.S. Gets “Big F” on Health Report Card”. Mercola.com. October 4, 2012. When I started my own fitness journey not that long ago, my waist was 38 inches which put me on the borderline of overweight and obese. It is totally within your power to choose whether you’re going to be like many Americans and continue to gain 3 or 5 or 10 pounds (or more!) a year, or you can decide to make positive changes now that will dramatically improve the quality of your life. When I originally wrote this article in November 2012, Thanksgiving was just around the corner. The picture of the turkey and fixins above was perfect! Think about it though! What time of year AREN’T we focused on food…big meals, unhealthy foods and/or sweats? Every month I accept a new class of virtual challengers into a private, Online Facebook Challenge Group. I always limit these groups to no more than 20 or 30 people so I can give folks individual attention for their questions. I post daily, expect check ins and hold you you accountable to your own goals. Joining a Team Triumph Challenge Group means you’re committed to change, but want some extra FREE support, motivation and accountability along the way. Email me or post below ASAP if you want in! The physical and emotional transformations from my previous Challengers are pretty remarkable. There are programs varying in length: 21, 30, 60 & 90 days. Tell me your goals, and we’ll develop a plan and I’ll coach you to it day by day. So have one last go with grandma’s pecan pie or whatever you crave and feel you can’t live without if you...

Anything is possible!

If this story can inspire someone you know, please share it with them! Arthur’s story is highlighted from the beginning, in the upcoming documentary, INSPIRED: The Movie. http://www.inspiredthemovie.com (Thanks to filmmaker Steve Yu for putting this inspirational video together!) Arthur Boorman was a disabled veteran of the Gulf War for 15 years, and was told by his doctors that he would never be able to walk on his own, ever again. He stumbled upon an article about Diamond Dallas Page doing Yoga and decided to give it a try — he couldn’t do traditional, higher impact exercise, so he tried DDP YOGA and sent an email to Dallas telling him his story. Dallas was so moved by his story, he began emailing and speaking on the phone with Arthur throughout his journey – he encouraged Arthur to keep going and to believe that anything was possible. Even though doctors told him walking would never happen, Arthur was persistent. He fell many times, but kept going. Arthur was getting stronger rapidly, and he was losing weight at an incredible rate! Because of DDP’s specialized workout, he gained tremendous balance and flexibility — which gave him hope that maybe someday, he’d be able to walk again. His story is proof, that we cannot place limits on what we are capable of doing, because we often do not know our own potential. Niether Arthur, nor Dallas knew what he would go on to accomplish, but this video speaks for itself. In less than a year, Arthur completely transformed his life. If only he had known what he was capable of, 15 years earlier. Do not waste any time thinking you are stuck – you can take control over your life, and change it faster than you might think. Hopefully this story can inspire you to follow your dreams – whatever they may be. Anything is Possible! Why I’m Running the Spartan Race at Fenway on November 18th

A little more than a year ago I ran a Warrior Dash with some of my closest friends in the world for no other purpose than to have some fun and honor a good man and coach. I often think back on that weekend in September of 2011 with very fond memories.  It was a truly great time. One week from Sunday, I will be running in my second mud race for an entirely different reason: I and a my friend Doug Denny (and others) will be running the Spartan Race at Fenway Park in Boston to pay tribute to loved ones who are currently fighting battles with cancer. My personal experience – Cancer has touched my life literally from my birth to now in a way that is simply profound. My mother had cancer of the uterus when she was pregnant with me, and immediately after giving birth had a complete hysterectomy performed to save her life. She’s a fighter and a 45 year cancer survivor. Early last summer, she called to let me know that she’d been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, topped off with the surgical removal of the cancerous tissue in her pancreas, bile duct, small intestine and stomach followed. It had been 8 months of recovery, cancer free, this week until I learned today from her that the cancer is back and in her blood. The news moved me to tears because I know how much she’s fought and suffered for more than a year…and knowing that she will have to fight on. I’m running the Spartan for her… As a cancer survivor myself, in this month of Thanksgiving I am TRULY THANKFUL to have been given a second chance… I’ve used that Blessing to make changes in my life that enabled me to lose 30 pounds of fat, and get my cholesterol and triglycerides into an optimal range (…thanks in no small part to my young children…my “Why?”…and my wife who provided the extra “shove” I needed at the time.) I’ve studied exercise and how to eat right to thrive, and now I’m thankful to be able to pay forward what I’ve learned by coaching others to help them change their lives the way I did. My good friend Doug – My sister, Robyn, was diagnosed in may 2011 with breast cancer after finding a large lump in her breast. Shortly after she began Chemo treatments to battle the disease. Following several rounds, she was tested again and found that the cancer had moved to her bones, chest cavity, lymph nodes, spine and liver. At this point she was...
